Jean-Lou Treboux Quintet
Introduced by JazzOnze and Festival Lausanne
The vibraphone is an instrument that was for a long time impregnated in the lyricism of Milt Jackson (Modern Jazz Quartet) and the percussive syncopation of Lionel Hampton.
After Bobby Hutcherson, young musicians have managed to emulate his expressive language.
One of them is Swiss Jean-Lou Treboux who has already made quite an impression, with his musical wording, intense swing, sense of contrast and rupture.
Composer and skilful arranger of the group’s repertoire, Jean-Lou Treboux knows how to take advantage of his strengths and musical talent of his partners.
Two virtuosos, two undisputed masters of their instruments, two sublime talents. An enchanting guitar, a lyrical saxophone. Sylvain Luc is one of today’s most brilliant guitarists, an adventurer destinguished by his rhythmic refinements and harmonic subtleties. Impetuous and generous, Stefano Di Battista, infuses a voluble breakneck tempo and neo – bop.
They could be compared to two great rivers, trying to merge. For years, when they were crossing paths on French and international stages, Sylvain Luc and Stefano Di Battista wanted to meet on stage, for a double stage experience.
By merging their strength and their sound, the Roman and the Bayonnais embark their contemporary hard bop on sleek trails, the word just at thetip of the tongue. Because experience and time have confirmed to them that ‘less is more’.
An exceptional gathering.
The history of jazz is punctuated with meetings, separations and musical reunion… Three names, three personalities, three giants, a trio that is formed after so many years, around a unique and almost impossible project….
Throughout his career, accordionist Richard Galliano has managed, through sheer determination, to impose the idea that his instrument is honourable enough to stand side-by-side saxophones and trumpets, at the very heart of jazz music.
Amongst guitarists who can claim lineage with Django Reinhardt, Biréli Lagrène has imposed himself: of course,he has understood and perpetuated the characteristic tone, guitar riff, radiating swing that all characterise the poetry created by his illustrious elder.
Experienced master and virtuous violinist, Didier Lockwood has made a deep impression in the contemporary jazz scene. At the age of 17, he joined the group Magma led by Christian Vander and launches a career punctuated by chance encounters and musical research. He was in this way noticed by Stéphane Grappelli who offered to accompany him on his tours.
